Q: I filled in the sign up form, but I’ve not received any #MamaMail yet…
A: We are sorry to hear that, because we want all our new mamas to receive their happy mail asap.  Please take a look at the steps below and let’s make sure you’re on the system…

  • Did you receive a confirmation email from The Paperdashery asking you to confirm your subscription to the New Mamas list?  If you didn’t, please check your junk folder in case it has mistakenly ended up in there.  If you did receive this email, you will need to click on the button that says:
    Please Confirm Subscription
Once you have confirmed your subscription, you will be added to our database and within a day or two, you will receive a second email asking you to “hang tight, Some happy mail should be with you very soon…”
Once you have received this email, please allow your sender 20 days to send your happy mail (senders outside of the UK should allow longer).
  • If you have not received a confirmation email (and you’ve checked your junk folder), please email us and we will look into this for you.
  • If you have received the final “hang tight” confirmation email and have still not received any #MamaMail after 20 days (40 days if you’re outside the UK), please email us and we will contact your sender.

Q: What will I receive in my #MamaMail?
A: We can’t answer that.  Every piece of #MamaMail is different.  Some senders choose to include small gifts, or handmade items, others will simply send a card with some words of kindness and support.  Your #MamaMail will depend on the budget and resources of your allocated sender, but whatever you receive will be sent with love.

Q: Can I also send some #MamaMail?
A: Absolutely!  Please sign up as a sender using the sender sign up form.

Q: Can I sign up to receive #MamaMail more than once?
No, we don’t currently allow that, however wherever possible we will allocate new mamas more than one sender, so you may receive more than one lot of #MamaMail (assuming we have more senders than new mamas)!

Q: I signed up to both send and receive #MamaMail.
I have received my new mama’s details to send to, but I haven’t received any #MamaMail of my own yet…
Thank you for joining the project to both send and receive – that’s brilliant!

  • Have you received a confirmation email from The Paperdashery asking you to confirm your subscription to the New Mamas list?  It may have arrived at the same time as the email asking you to confirm your subscription to the Senders list (in some email applications, Gmail for example, they may appear together and you might only notice one of them).  If you don’t remember receiving this, please double-check your in-box in case it has mistakenly ended up in there.
  • If you have not received a confirmation email (and you’ve checked your in-box and junk folder), please email us and we will look into this for you.
  • If you have received the final “hang tight” confirmation email and have still not received any #MamaMail after 20 days (40 days if you’re outside the UK), please email us and we will contact your sender.

Senders of happiness FAQs:

Q: I filled in the sign up form, but I’ve not been allocated a new mama to send to yet…
A: Thank you for signing up to send happiness to a new mama! We are sorry to hear that you’ve not been matched yet.  Let’s try and fix that together…

  • Did you receive a confirmation email from The Paperdashery asking you to confirm your subscription to the Senders list?  If you didn’t, please check your junk folder in case it has mistakenly ended up in there.  If you did receive this email, you need to please click on the button that says:
    Please Confirm Subscription
Once you have confirmed your subscription, you will be added to our database and within a day or two, you will receive a second email with the details of the new mama you should send to.
  • If you have not received a confirmation email (and you’ve checked your junk folder), we apologise and ask you to please sign up again as a sender.  If you email us right after you have done that (and after you have also clicked the button in the list confirmation email), we can then double-check you’re on the list for the next round of matching.

Q: When will I receive the details of my new mama to send to?
A: We try to match mamas twice a week, so if you have not heard from us within 5 days of confirming your subscription, please email us.

Q: What should I send in my #MamaMail?
A: The aim of the project is to send love, support and happiness to a new mama – a simple card and heartfelt message is more than enough.  Of course if you can afford and would like to send more, you are welcome to, but the idea is simply to send an uplifting paper hug through the mail.

If you do want to send a little extra, here are a few ideas from real mamas that you might choose to include:

  • A huge wedge of reassurance, empowerment and someone to say “do you know what? you might not feel like it, but you’re doing everything right and you’re doing awesome!” Oh and one of those fancy grown up colouring books and beautiful pencils. – Janina
  • A chocolate bar, some hot choc sachets or a mini bottle of wine and some face masks. – Danielle
  • Biscuits! And a nice note. Something completely unrelated to having a baby as when you have a newborn any money that you spend on yourself rather than your baby is on lovely ‘treats’ like Lansinoh and leaky boob pads. – Kate
  • Dry shampoo, bath soak, BB cream or tinted moisturiser and a recipe book for quick meals – Jo
  • Gin flavoured chocolate! – Zoe
  • Some ‘mum time’ vouchers so she can use them by giving one to Dad/ parents/ friends, when she needs 30mins to herself. Comfy PJs, popcorn, and new DVD or Amazon voucher… If you are going to be up with the baby why not enjoy it?! – Debz
  • A mini scented candle, express drying nail polish in a bright colour and CHOCOLATE – Cristina

You can find lovely new mama cards and more in our #MamaMail shop, plus ideas on our blog for sending the most awesome happy mail!

Q: Can I also receive some #MamaMail?
A: Yes, if you are a new mama (typically with a baby under 3 months old, though there is some flexibility on this, especially if you are suffering from PND or are otherwise struggling with new motherhood and need extra support).  Please do sign up using the form.

Q: Can I sign up to send #MamaMail more than once?
A: You don’t need to sign up again, as we already have your details!
