Handmade paper origami crane (or stork)

This elegant and carefully folded paper origami crane is posted flat, but opens out into a 3D model by gently pulling the wings down and outwards.
He comes in a variety of colours and papers (please add a note to your order if you would like a specific colour or a more traditionally masculine/feminine pattern).  He also features on our handmade origami card for a new baby, in the guise of a stork, delivering a new bundle of joy.

According to Japanese legend, the crane is a mystical creature that lives for a thousand years.  Anyone who is able to fold a thousand origami cranes (one for each year of the crane’s life), will be granted a wish (a long life, eternal good luck, or good health/recovery from illness or injury) by a crane.

Origami Cranes have more recently become a symbol of world peace through the story of a Japanese girl, Sadako Sasaki, suffering from leukemia (a result of radiation from the 2nd world war atomic bombing of Hiroshima).
While sick in hospital, Sadako began to fold 1000 cranes. Sadly she died before achieving her goal, after folding just 644 origami cranes before her death in 1955.  Her friends completed the 1,000 and buried them all with her.
