Why would a new mum want to receive happy mail?

The postpartum weeks can be really tough, especially with your first baby.

Along with the joy of becoming a mother and finally meeting this brand new little person you’ve been growing for (give or take) 40 weeks, there’s the hellish hormones & baby blues (day 3 post birth is usually the worst), lochia (remember those lilo sized maxi pads?), cracked nipples, stitches, chronic lack of sleep and the realisation that this tiny thing is dependent on you for everything and you may never leave the house again (of course you will, but it can certainly seem an impossible mission to start with)…

Despite the endless stream of family and friends arriving to snuggle your delicious newborn, it’s easy to feel isolated at this time, especially after the paternity leave is over and you’re home alone during the daytime.  It can be hard to talk honestly about your feelings to friends, especially those without babies.  Sometimes it is easier to confide in someone you don’t know.  Someone who has been there and understands.

postpartum panic

We remember how hard those early months weeks were.  We also believe in the positive power of happy mail.
That’s why we’ve started the #MamaMail project.

What is #MamaMail & how does it work?

The #MamaMail project encourages mums to send some happy mail (a letter, postcard, even a little gift) to a new mum who might be in need of support and encouragement during the postpartum weeks. The aim of the project is to send love, support and happiness to a new mama – a simple card and heartfelt message is more than enough.  Of course if you can afford and would like to send more, you are welcome to, but the idea is simply to send an uplifting paper hug through the mail.

kindness is happiness

There is absolutely no obligation for the recipient to respond and senders should not expect a reply (we all know how hard it can be to get anything done with a newborn!).
Having said that, there could be the option to connect further if the sender includes contact details and again only if the recipient chooses to respond.
